What children will practise

Understand 11 to 20 as a ten and some ones: add ten to a single digit, subtract back to ten, and state the tens and ones in a two-digit number, in line with indicator ค 1.1 ป.1/1.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options each - 10 + 3 = 13, 10 + 7 = 17 - 15 - 5 = 10 - Which lies between 14 and 16: 15 - How many tens and ones in 18: 1 ten and 8 ones (8 tens and 1 one is a distractor) - 20 - 10 = 10

How to use it in class

Use after teaching tens and ones with bundles of lolly sticks. 5-6 minutes. - Before playing, hold up one bundle of ten and three single sticks and ask how many altogether - Play solo; for question 5, children lay out one bundle and eight singles - If many choose 8 tens and 1 one, point out that the left digit tells the tens - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In question 5, choosing 8 tens and 1 one by reading right to left, or 18 tens before place value is clear - In question 3, choosing 5 by subtracting the ones and forgetting the ten - In question 6, choosing 0, thinking subtracting similar-looking numbers gives zero
