What children will practise

Add and subtract three-digit numbers with and without carrying, and add up to 1,000, as part of solving addition and subtraction number sentences (indicator ค 1.1 ป.3/5).

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice questions - 234 + 152 = 386 with no carrying - 465 + 128 = ? with a carry in the ones, answer 593 - 700 - 250 = 450 - 836 - 421 = 415 - 999 + 1 = ? answer 1000, distractors 9991 and 1010

How to use it in class

Use at the start of the three-digit addition and subtraction unit, 6-8 minutes, solo mode to check the basics. - For 700 - 250, try counting on from 250 to 300 and then to 700; easier than borrowing across zeros - For 999 + 1, use hundreds flats and tens rods to show the carry rippling through three columns - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book, then group pupils who missed 465 + 128 for more carrying practice

Common sticking points

- Choosing 583 for 465 + 128 by forgetting the carry, or 693 by carrying into the wrong column - Choosing 550 for 700 - 250 by doing 5 - 0 in the tens. Count on instead - Choosing 9991 for 999 + 1 by writing the 1 on the end, or 1010 by not carrying through every column
