What children will practise

Multiply two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers with and without carrying, plus 12 × 12 (indicator ค 1.1 ป.4/9), using useful facts such as 25 × 4 = 100.

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice questions - 23 × 4 = 92 and 15 × 6 = 90 with a carry - 12 × 12 = 144 - 25 × 4 = 100 - 31 × 3 = 93 with no carry - 50 × 8 = 400

How to use it in class

Use at the start of the P4 multiplication unit, about 6 minutes, team mode. Teams show the split method, e.g. 23 × 4 = 20 × 4 + 3 × 4. - Link 25 × 4 to four 25-satang coins making 1 baht - Picture 12 × 12 as a 12 by 12 grid - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book

Common sticking points

- Choosing 82 for 23 × 4 by forgetting the carry, or 96 from working 24 × 4 - Choosing 80 or 96 for 15 × 6 from a carrying slip. Split into 10 × 6 + 5 × 6 - Choosing 450 or 300 for 50 × 8 by mixing up 5 × 9 or 5 × 6. Think 5 × 8 = 40, then one more zero
