What children will practise

Solve time problems (indicator ค 2.1 ป.4/1): finishing times and durations in hours and minutes, converting between hours and minutes, and knowing the days in an ordinary year and in February.

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice questions - Starting at 08:00 and taking 2 hours 30 minutes finishes at 10:30 - 2 hours is 120 minutes; distractor 100 - 90 minutes is an hour and a half - From 14:15 to 15:45 is 1 hour 30 minutes - An ordinary year has 365 days, and February has 28 or 29

How to use it in class

Use in the P4 time unit, 6-7 minutes, solo mode, with a timeline marked in 15-minute steps beside the screen. - For 14:15 to 15:45, hop on the timeline: to 15:15 is one hour, then 30 more minutes - If many choose 100 for 2 hours, stress that time does not count in hundreds - For February, teach the knuckle method for days in each month - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book

Common sticking points

- Choosing 100 minutes for 2 hours, treating time like money or metres in hundreds - Choosing 1 hour 45 minutes for 14:15 to 15:45 by reading only the 45, or 2 hours 30 minutes by adding. Use the timeline - Choosing 1 hour 10 minutes for 90 minutes. Take away 60 first, leaving 30
