A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.

A prime number has exactly two factors.
Sort into
An improper fraction is worth more than one.
Sort into
Compare with one hour, which is sixty minutes.
Before you play
Classify primes versus composites, proper versus improper fractions, times shorter or longer than 1 hour, and problems that ask for area (two measurements) versus volume (three).
4 sorting rounds, dragging 4 cards into 2 groups - Prime or composite: 29, 28, 31, 33 - Proper or improper fraction: 3/5, 7/5, 2/7, 9/7 - Less or more than 1 hour: 45, 90, 30 and 120 minutes - Finds area or volume: a room 3 by 4, a box 3 by 4 by 5, a field 20 by 30, a cupboard 1 by 2 by 2
Use as a mid-unit or pre-quiz review; about 5 minutes. - Play in teams and let teams keep a times-table grid for round 1 - If round 1 goes badly, have the whole class try 33 ÷ 3 and 28 ÷ 2 together - In round 4, point out that the items with tall/height have three numbers, so they are volume - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.
- Round 1: 33 often goes in the prime group because it is odd and unfamiliar; check with 3 × 11 - Round 1: 29 and 31 may be thought composite just for being two-digit; try dividing by 2, 3 and 5 - Round 3: 90 minutes may be put under 1 hour by children who think an hour is 100 minutes; stress that 1 hour is 60 minutes
