What children will practise

Practise multiplying and dividing decimals by whole numbers, following ค 1.1 ป.5/6 and ป.5/7, reasoning from meaning (0.5 × 4 is four halves) and placing the decimal point correctly.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - 0.5 × 4 (2) - 1.2 × 3 (3.6) - 6 ÷ 0.5 (12) - 0.1 × 10 (1) - 4.5 ÷ 3 (1.5)

How to use it in class

Use mid-way through decimal multiplication and division, before longer practice; about 5 minutes. - Play in teams and have each team estimate first, e.g. 1.2 × 3 should be near 3 - If many miss Q4, use 50-satang coins: how many make 6 baht? - For Q2 and Q6, check by estimating; options 36 and 15 are far too big - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Q4: most children answer 3 for 6 ÷ 0.5, believing division always makes smaller; dividing by a number less than 1 makes it bigger - Q2: dropping the point gives 36, or multiplying only the ones digit gives 3.2 - Q6: 15 comes from 45 ÷ 3 without putting the point back
