What children will practise

Harder multi-step word problems: distance from departure and arrival times, two successive discounts, pool volume, total from a mean, a fraction of an amount, and a three-way share, following ค 1.1 ป.6/11-12.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - Leaves 08:00 at 60 km/h, arrives 11:30: distance (210) - 2,000 baht, 20% off then a further 10% off (1440) - Pool 5 m by 20 m, 2 m deep: cubic metres (200) - Mean of 5 values is 20: total (100) - 3,000 baht shared 2 : 3 : 5: third share (1500)

How to use it in class

Use as a challenge for strong groups or before ม.1 entrance tests; about 8-10 minutes. - Play in teams, allowing 1-2 minutes per question and having teams write each step on a mini whiteboard - Pause on Q2: is 20% then 10% off the same as 30% off? Work it out to show it is not - For Q1, find the journey time of 3 and a half hours first - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Q2: adding the discounts to 30% gives 1400, which is offered - Q1: taking the time as 3 or 4 hours gives 180 or 240 - Q4: dividing 20 by 5 instead of multiplying, or choosing 120 - Q6: dividing 3,000 by three people, or 1800 from miscounting parts
