What children will practise

Practises simple art criticism: start with what you see, give specific suggestions, accept feedback, and judge work by what it communicates rather than how realistic it is, plus museum manners. Fits indicator ศ 1.2 ป.2/2 on discussing artwork.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, choose 1 of 3 - Where should good art criticism start? (say what you see first) - What makes feedback useful? (it is specific and shows how to improve) - Why do people feel differently about the same picture? (different experiences) - How should you view work in a museum? (look with your eyes, do not touch)

How to use it in class

Play before children give each other feedback in pairs, about 7 minutes, whole class. After revealing questions 1 and 2, write a sentence frame on the board: "I see... I feel... If you add... it will..." for children to use in the real critique. For a question many miss, give two sample comments and ask which one helps the friend more. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- "When you receive criticism": children often pick "explain right away why you did it", which is what they actually do. Practise saying "Thanks, I'll try that" first. - Judging two very different works: "pick the more realistic one" still tempts Grade 2. Show two pieces in different styles and ask what each is trying to say. - Why people feel differently: some pick "they stand at different angles", thinking physically.
