This set has 6 questions in an interactive multiple choice activity.
Curriculum indicatorศ 1.2 ป.5/2
A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Describe what is actually there, before you interpret it.
The use of line, colour and form, and how they are arranged.
Saying what the work means, from the evidence in the work itself.
Before you play
Practises the steps of analysing art: describe what you see, analyse line, colour, form and composition, interpret from evidence in the picture, judge using the analysis, accept different interpretations, and give constructive criticism. Fits indicator ศ 1.2 ป.5/2.
6 questions, 3 options each - What is the first step in analysing art? (describe what you actually see) - What is interpreting art? (explaining meaning from evidence in the work) - If two people interpret a picture differently, what does it mean? (that is normal if both have evidence) - What should constructive criticism include? (strengths, things to improve, and reasons)
Keep one picture on screen throughout, about 8 minutes, whole class. After each reveal, have one or two children carry out that step on the picture, for example describing it without judging. For the different-interpretations question, ask two pupils who read it differently to give their evidence. For a question many miss, repeat with a new picture. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- First step: the distractor "interpret what the artist wants to say" draws children eager to guess the meaning straight away. Stress you must see before you interpret. - Interpreting: children often choose "guess from your first feeling". Practise the frame "I think... because the picture has..." - Judging value: some pick "the viewer's personal taste" since they are used to saying like or dislike.
