What children will practise

Practises design for communication: what posters, logos, charts and packaging are for, the principles of hierarchy, contrast, consistency and white space, what colours signal in design, and fixes for common problems. Fits indicator ศ 1.1 ป.5/2.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, match 4 pairs each - logo goes with representing an organisation; chart goes with showing data quickly - hierarchy goes with the viewer knowing what to read first - red goes with urgency and warning; blue goes with trustworthy and calm - too cluttered goes with cutting out what is not needed

How to use it in class

Use before children design a campaign poster, about 8 minutes, in pairs. Have two or three real posters from the school noticeboard to hand. After the problems round, let children spot a problem in a real poster and suggest a fix. If the principles round goes badly, point out hierarchy and white space on the posters you brought. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Principles round: "contrast" and "hierarchy" often swap since both are about readability. Contrast means readable from afar; hierarchy means knowing what to read first. - "Consistency = looks like one set" may be paired with white space. - Colours round: green and blue may swap since both feel calm.
