What children will practise

Orders school writing tasks: the parts of a report, the steps of abridging, the steps of research, and the paragraphs of an essay. It matches indicator ท 2.1 ป.5/4 (abridging what is read), with a link to ท 2.1 ป.5/2 (clear, correct written communication).

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, an ordering game with four steps each - Report: cover > introduction > body > bibliography - Abridging: read and understand it > mark the main points > cut incidental detail > rewrite in your own words - Research: frame the question > find sources > take notes and references > write it up - Essay: introduction > first reason > second reason > conclusion and proposal

How to use it in class

Use it before the term's first report or abridging task, about 5 minutes in teams. Turn the correct order from question 2 into a step card that children use when they abridge for real. For question 1, show a sample report, which will also have a contents page even though the game leaves it out. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Question 2: swapping mark the main points and cut incidental detail, since they can happen together. Explain that you must know what matters before you know what to cut. - Question 3: putting find sources before frame the question, from habit of searching online first. Ask: without a question, what would you type? - Question 1: putting the introduction before the cover, treating it as the first page.
