Before you begin

Teaching guide

What children will practise

Join two word cards into a full sentence and copy it out neatly, seeing the whole patterns There is some..., I have a... and She has an... once more.

What's in the worksheet

10 sentences, 2 points each, 20 points (one part, Part A) - Every item has just two cards: the subject and verb, e.g. There is, and the noun card with a, an or some already attached and a full stop, e.g. some milk. - The sentences repeat those on the fill-in sheet for this topic: some six times, an twice (egg, orange) and a twice (banana, cookie) - The worksheet runs items 1-5 down the left column and 6-10 down the right - The key writes all 10 sentences out in red

How to use it in class

Suits children who are not yet confident readers, as a copying sheet before or after the fill-in sheet. Allow about 10 minutes. - Have children read each finished sentence aloud and circle a, an and some in three colours to see the noun groups - To stretch it, cover the noun cards and have children say the sentence from the picture alone, e.g. There is some cheese.

Common sticking points

- Copying carelessly, e.g. dropping the full stop or writing some apple without the s - Capitalising the wrong word, e.g. I have Some apples., thinking every card starts a sentence - Putting the noun card first, e.g. some rice. There is, even though that card carries the full stop
