Order three word cards into This is / That is / These are / Those are sentences, then pick the sentence that fits the picture and is grammatical.

What's in the worksheet

12 items, 20 points - Part A: order three cards, 8 items (16 points), e.g. a banana / is / This, clouds / Those / are, are / birds / Those - Part A key: This is a banana., That is a bus., These are cookies., Those are clouds., This is a robot., That is a tree., These are pencils., Those are birds. - Part B: tick the correct sentence, 4 items (4 points); distractors include These is a book., Those is a kite., This are flowers. and That are cars. - Part B key: This is a book., That is a kite., These are flowers., Those are cars.

How to use it in class

Use as the last sheet in the this / that / these / those set. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, point out the dotted line in pictures 2, 4, 6 and 8 that runs to a far-off thing, as a cue for That / Those - After marking, have children make their own three-card sentence about something in the classroom and swap with a partner to order

Common sticking points

- Part B item 1 These is a book. or item 4 That are cars.: looking only at the pointing word, not whether is / are fits the number - Part B item 3: choosing Those are flowers., which is grammatical, though the pot of flowers is close - Part A: copying the cards in printed order, e.g. a banana is This or That a bus is - Leaving out the full stop, as none of the cards carries one
