Teaching guide

What children will practise

Read Ms. May's email about a class trip to a science museum and mark ten statements true or false, checking details of day, times, order of events and what to bring.

What's in the worksheet

10 statements, 2 points each, 20 points - A seven-sentence email to Leo: a visit to the City Science Museum next Wednesday, bus at 8:30 a.m., a planet show before lunch, sandwiches in the garden, back at 3:00 p.m. - The five false statements change one detail, e.g. The trip is on Thursday. / They will watch a planet show after lunch. / They will return to school at 4:00 p.m. - Five answers are true and five false - The key writes True or False in full: T F T F F T T F T F

How to use it in class

Use after the multiple-choice email sheet, since small words like before and after decide the answer. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, have children underline the days, times and sequence words (before lunch, at noon) in the email - After marking, have children rewrite the five false statements so they are true, e.g. The trip is on Wednesday., and read them to a partner

Common sticking points

- Marking item 5 true without noticing that the email says before lunch, not after - Marking item 10 true from the picture, whose clock shows 4 o'clock, rather than reading 3:00 p.m. in the email - Marking item 4 true because children assume a trip means a packed lunch, though the email asks only for a notebook, pencil and water bottle - Marking item 8 true after reading The ticket ... but students must bring and assuming there is a cost
