What children will practise

Write am, is or are before going to to agree with ten subjects, both pronouns (I, She, We, He, They) and nouns (Mom, The boy, Dad).

What's in the worksheet

10 sentences, 2 points each, 20 points (one part) - The same sentences as the picture-choice and word-card sheets on this topic, e.g. I ___ going to ride a bike tomorrow. and Dad ___ going to wash the car on Saturday. - am twice (I), is five times (She, He, Mom, The boy, Dad) and are three times (We twice, They) - No options are given - The key prints the answer large in red with the full sentence: am is are is are is is am are is

How to use it in class

Use after the picture-choice sheet, once the meaning of going to is clear. Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, put I am / he, she, it is / we, they are on the board and ask which pronoun stands for Mom and for Dad - After marking, have children swap the subject in three sentences for a classmate's name or My friends and read the new sentences to their group

Common sticking points

- Hesitating over, or writing are for, the noun subjects in items 6, 7 and 10 (Mom, The boy, Dad) - Writing is for They (item 5) and We (item 9), seeing the family as one group - Writing am going or is going in the gap, though going is already printed - Writing I'm in items 1 and 8, doubling the printed I
