Before you begin

Teaching guide

What children will practise

Order 4-5 word cards into a future sentence of subject + will + verb phrase + time expression, then write it out on the line.

What's in the worksheet

10 sentences, 2 points each, 20 points (one part, labelled Mission 8) - Most items have 4 cards, e.g. tomorrow. / will / It / rain; item 3 has 5 (Grandma / will / She / on Sunday. / visit) - Item 8 splits cook from soup tonight. and item 6 splits read from a book later. - Time phrases: tomorrow, on Sunday, after school, tonight, later, next weekend - The same sentences as the picture-choice and will fill-in sheets on this topic - The key writes each sentence in red beside a redrawn picture

How to use it in class

Use as the last will sheet, after picture choice and fill-in. Allow about 15 minutes. - Teach a strategy: find the capitalised card (the subject) and the card with the full stop (the end) first, then put will straight after the subject - After marking, have children write two sentences of their own with time phrases from the sheet, e.g. I will ... next weekend.

Common sticking points

- In item 3 the Grandma card is capitalised like She, so children may build Grandma will visit She on Sunday. - Placing will after the verb, e.g. It rain will tomorrow. - In item 8 putting cook after soup tonight., or writing Mom cook will - Dropping the full stop when copying, even though it is on the card
