Teaching guide

What children will practise

Order three word cards into a have got / has got sentence, then pick the sentence where have or has agrees with the subject.

What's in the worksheet

12 items, 20 points - Section A: order the words and write the sentence, 8 items (16 points), e.g. She has got a cat., I have got a ball., It has got two arms., My friends have got bags. - Section A splits evenly: has got with She, It, He and The dog; have got with I, We, They and My friends - Section B: choose the correct sentence from three, 4 items (4 points), with distractors such as She have got a cat., We has got wheels. and Tom have got a kite. - A separate key writes the full sentences and ticks the right option

How to use it in class

Use after the have/has gap-fill: here the verb arrives ready on a card, so the challenge is subject + verb + object order. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, ask children to find the card with a capital letter in each item, since that is the subject - After marking, each child takes one thing from their bag and says I have got ...; a partner reports it back as She has got ... or He has got ...

Common sticking points

- In Section B, choosing distractors that put have with a singular subject: She have got a cat., It have got wheels., Tom have got a kite. - Item 11: picking They has got books. because They is right, without checking the verb - Item 12 uses a name, Tom, and children may not see that it takes has just like He - Copying the Section A sentence without the full stop, or dropping the s in books
