Teaching guide

What children will practise

Write have or has before got so that it agrees with the subject, whether a pronoun, a name or a noun.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - Children write have or has themselves with no options, e.g. She ___ got a puppy., You ___ got a paintbrush., The dog ___ got a bone. - Five answers are has (She, It, He, The dog, Tom) and five are have (I, We, They, You, My friends) - Subjects include seven pronouns, one name and two nouns - A separate key writes each answer on the line

How to use it in class

Use as the first sheet of the have got unit, before the sentence-building sheet. Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, write I, You, We, They on one side of the board and He, She, It on the other, and ask which side The dog (item 8) and Tom (item 10) belong to - After marking, partners point at a picture and ask What has she got?, answering in a full sentence

Common sticking points

- Item 7: writing has for You because only one child is pictured, though You always takes have - Items 8 and 10: writing have for The dog and Tom because neither is literally He, She or It - Item 9: writing has for My friends after reading only the word My - Misspelling has as haz or writing have's
