Teaching guide

What children will practise

Order three or four word cards into I like ... or I don't like ... and write out the sentence, putting don't in the right place before like.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - Order the cards and write the sentence on the line, 10 items - Six I like sentences use three cards: apples, rain, cats, pizza, carrots and dancing - Four I don't like sentences use four cards: broccoli, reading, football and swimming - The noun cards carry the full stop (e.g. apples.), a clue that they go last - A separate key writes each sentence in full with a tick

How to use it in class

Use as the last sheet in the like / don't like set, after the circle and gap-fill sheets. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, have children find the I card first in each item, then point to the card with the full stop to see which word goes last - After marking, each child writes their own cards for one sentence about a food or activity and swaps with a partner to unscramble

Common sticking points

- Ordering the negative as I like don't broccoli., with don't after like - Copying the don't card without the apostrophe - Starting with a small i although the card shows a capital - Leaving off the full stop when copying the noun card
