How to use it in class
Use as the opening activity of a natural resources unit. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Before starting, ask each child to find two things in the classroom, one from nature and one made by people - After marking, use items 3 and 9 to extend the idea: glass is made from sand and paper from trees, so made things still start from nature
Common sticking points
- Marking the paper aeroplane (item 9) as from nature because paper comes from trees; accept the reasoning, then show it has been processed by people - Marking the cotton plant (item 7) as not from nature because they think of cotton wool or clothes from a shop - Not counting the Sun (item 10) as a natural resource because it cannot be touched
