What children will practise

Write the object pronoun without any options to replace the person or thing named in the first sentence, e.g. Jack and Ben becomes them and Anna and me becomes us.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 20 points (2 points each) - The same sentence pairs as the choose sheet, e.g. Sarah has a book. I can help ___. and Mum calls Anna and me. Mum calls ___. - There is no word bank; children produce him, her, it, us, them or you themselves - her is the answer three times (items 2, 6, 10), it twice (3, 7) and us twice (4, 8) - A separate answer key shows each pair with the completed sentence on the right

How to use it in class

Use as the second sheet of the unit, once children manage the choose sheet comfortably. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Keep me, you, him, her, it, us, them in a corner of the board for less confident children, then rub it out for a second attempt - After marking, play point-and-say: point at classmates or classroom objects and have children answer with I can see him. / I can see them. to match

Common sticking points

- In item 8, Anna and me, children often write them because another name is there; the me means it has to be us - In items 3 and 7 children may write him or her for the dog and the robot instead of it - Writing the subject forms he, she or they in the gap, with no options to compare against - Writing their instead of them in item 5
