Before you begin

Teaching guide

What children will practise

Put 2-5 word tiles in order to build a short sentence with an object pronoun near the end, such as I can help her. and Give it some food., guided by a picture.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 20 points (2 points each) - Ten pictures at the top, with the tiles listed below, e.g. him. / see / I / can and day. / I / every / use / it - Item 5 has only two tiles, them. / Watch, while item 7 has five - The sentences are the same set as the choose and fill-in sheets, but without the first sentence that names the person - A separate answer key gives full sentences in red, e.g. Mum calls us. and The teacher sees you.

How to use it in class

Use as the last sheet of the unit, after the choose and fill-in sheets. Allow about 15 minutes. - Point out that the tile with the full stop goes last and the tile with a capital letter goes first, so children only have to sort the middle - After marking, pairs choose a picture and say the missing first sentence themselves, such as This is my sister., before reading the key sentence

Common sticking points

- Placing the object pronoun before the verb, as in I him can see. - In item 3, building Give some food it. because it comes last in the other sentences - In item 7, putting every day at the start, although the day. tile already carries the full stop - Dropping the capital letter or full stop when copying the sentence onto the line
