Teaching guide

What children will practise

Match questions heard at a food truck to the right reply, such as Is this for here or to go? - To go, please., then complete a short role-play dialogue.

What's in the worksheet

10 points in total (no per-item marks on the sheet) - Five matching items, answered with letters A-E: What would you like?, Can I have orange juice?, How much is the sandwich?, Would you like some soup? and Is this for here or to go? - Reply cards: It is 45 baht., I'd like noodles, please., To go, please., Sure. Here you are. and Yes, please. - A four-line role-play corner with two gaps: I'd like ___, please. and the seller's question - A separate answer key is included (1-B, 2-D, 3-A, 4-E, 5-C; noodles / For here or to go)

How to use it in class

Use before the fill-in ordering sheet, since here the replies are given. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Before matching, have children decide which questions the seller asks and which the customer asks, then look for the reply - After marking, pairs act out the role-play corner, using the food truck's menu board (noodles, pizza, drinks) to change the order and choose for here or to go

Common sticking points

- Children may swap Yes, please. and Sure. Here you are. between items 2 and 4, since both accept; the key is who is asking for what - In item 1 children may pick To go, please. because card C sits at the top, though What would you like? asks for the order - In the role-play corner children may repeat What would you like? on line three, although the next line answers To go, please.
