Before you begin
Look at the picture and write I, You, He, She, It, We or They at the start of a short sentence, noticing how the am, is or are that follows helps narrow the choice.
15 questions, 20 points - Section A: write the pronoun for 10 sentences (10 points), e.g. ___ am a student., ___ is a dog., ___ are kind. - Section B: choose one of three for 5 sentences (10 points), e.g. ___ is a cat. (We / She / It) and ___ am a student. (They / It / I) - A woman teacher in A2 and a man teacher in A10 practise She versus He - A separate answer key is included
Use after the circle-the-picture pronoun sheet, once children can read the sentences themselves. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, put I - am, He/She/It - is, You/We/They - are on the board and have children look at the word after the gap before the picture - Section B item 5 and Section A items 6 and 7 accept more than one answer, so agree the marking first and use them to talk about why We and They can both be right
- In Section A item 7, ___ are kind., the key gives You, but with two girls pictured most children write They, which is also right - Section A item 6 and Section B item 5 key We, but nothing shows the speaker is in the picture, so They is also right - Writing He in A9 by not noticing the hair bow - Writing a lower-case i in A1
