What children will practise

Read a four-picture story about Omar and Skye's trip to a science museum, then choose the word that completes each sentence, using both the captions and the pictures.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 20 points - A four-frame story: visiting the science museum, seeing a big dinosaur, pressing a button so a rocket lights up, and drawing a favourite exhibit in a notebook - Choose one of three words, e.g. They press a ___. (pillow / button / shoe) and The museum is a fun ___. (animal / place / color) - Items 1-5 can be answered from the captions; items 6-10 need the pictures, e.g. Omar and Skye feel happy and They use a pencil to draw. - A separate answer key is included

How to use it in class

Use while practising reading for meaning in short sentences, once see, press and draw are familiar. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, have children retell the four frames in order, in Thai or simple English - After marking, ask them to draw a fifth frame showing what Omar and Skye do next and write one caption for it

Common sticking points

- Item 7, A rocket is in the ___, is not stated in any caption; children have to link it to frame 3 - In item 8 the distractor tiny is the opposite of big from the story, which catches quick readers - Item 3 needs lights up as a phrase; sleeps and swims do not go with up - Some children pick any word they saw in the story without reading the sentence, e.g. museum in item 10 instead of place
