What children will practise

Order four word cards into a sentence with my, his, her or their placed before the noun, then describe the object's colour or quality.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - The main pattern is Her/His/Their/My + noun + is + colour: Her doll is red., His bicycle is green., Their car is blue., My pencil is yellow. - Four items break the pattern: This is my book. (1), These are their balls. (3), My robot can walk. (5), His hat is new. (8) - The last card carries the full stop and the first card has the capital letter - A separate key writes each full sentence with a tick

How to use it in class

Use after the choose and fill-in possessive sheets, once children know what my, his, her and their mean. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, point out that Thai says หนังสือของฉัน (book of me), while English always puts my before book - In item 2, the cards say red even though the doll wears pink. Mark the card order, and do not penalise a child who notices the colour difference - After marking, children hold up their own things or point to a friend's and make new sentences on the model: My bag is blue. / His pencil is red.

Common sticking points

- Putting the possessive after the noun, following Thai order: This is book my. or Doll her is red. - Placing is at the end: Her doll red is. - Item 3: writing These is their balls. because nearly every other item uses is - Item 2 pictures a doll in a pink dress, yet the card says red, which may make children think they have gone wrong
