What children will practise

Read the Owner badge, which gives the owner as a pronoun or a name (I, Ben, Lily, We, They, You), and turn it into the possessive pronoun to complete each sentence unaided.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 20 points (2 points each) - Each item shows the owner with an Owner badge, the object and a sentence, e.g. Owner: Ben - The robot is ___. - There are no options; children convert I to mine, Ben to his, Lily to hers, We to ours, They to theirs and You to yours - Lily appears twice (items 3 and 8), We twice (4 and 9) and They twice (5 and 10) - A separate answer key shows each owner holding the object, with the full sentence

How to use it in class

Use after the choose sheet, once mine, hers and theirs are recognised. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Before starting, put I, you, he, she, we, they in a top row on the board and have the class fill the row beneath; point out that items 2 and 3 need the name turned into he or she first - After marking, children make an Owner badge for something on their desk and walk round asking Is this yours? / No, it's hers.

Common sticking points

- In items 2 and 3 copying the owner's name straight in, as in The robot is Ben., or writing Ben's - In items 1 and 7, where the badge says I, writing my or me instead of mine - Putting the s in the wrong place: her's, our's, or mines - In item 6, Owner: You, writing your instead of yours
