What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - Section A, Where is it?: circle the answer, no writing needed - Answers: under (items 1 and 10), in (items 2 and 8), on, behind, next to, above, between, in front of - Distractors are neighbouring prepositions, e.g. on/in/under in items 1-3, behind/on/above in item 6, under/behind/in front of in item 9 - A separate key ticks above the circled answer

How to use it in class

Use as the first sheet of the prepositions unit, after demonstrating with a real box and ball. Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, children use two hands, one as the box and the other placed in, on, under, behind or next to it as you call the word - After marking, move on to the fill-in or sentence-building sheet, which use the same scenes, so children go from circling to writing

Common sticking points

- Item 5: the car overlaps the front of the lamp base, so children may circle behind or under instead of next to - Item 6: circling on because the kite is near the roof, or behind because its string disappears past the house - Item 4: circling in because the cat peeps out through the curtain - Item 10: the pencil sticks out beside the notebook, so next to is tempting
