Before you begin
Write at, on or in in each gap without options, before clock times, days, months and parts of the day, in the same ten sentences as the choose sheet.
10 questions, 20 points (2 points each) - The same sentences as the choose sheet, e.g. We have lunch ___ noon., We visit Grandma ___ Sunday., New Year is ___ January. - The pictures signal the kind of time word: clocks at 7 and noon, MONDAY and SUNDAY calendar pages, a JANUARY calendar, a 6:30 digital clock - at four times, on twice, in four times - A separate answer key writes each answer in red in the gap
Use after the choose sheet. Allow about 10 minutes, but leave a day between them, as children will remember the answers if done back to back. - Let children use the pictures before writing: a clock suggests at, a day calendar on, a month calendar in - After marking, children rewrite three sentences with their own details, e.g. My birthday is in ___. and I go to bed at ___., and read them to a partner
- In item 4, I sleep ___ night., writing in, by analogy with in the evening in item 8 - In item 8, the evening, writing at because the night picture looks like item 4 - In item 6 writing on or in before noon, since it is not a clock number - Misspelling the preposition, e.g. an or un, with no options to copy from
