Before you begin
Choose some, any, much or many from three options, deciding whether the noun is countable and whether the sentence is positive, negative or a How ___ question.
10 items, 2 points each, 20 points in total - Three lettered options per item, e.g. How ___ water is there? (many / some / much) - Four How ___ questions: water and juice take much; books and eggs take many - Two negatives take any: There aren't any cookies. / There isn't any rice. - Four positives: many apples, some milk, some oranges, some carrots - A separate answer key writes full sentences in red, without the A/B/C letters
Use as the first quantifiers sheet, after countable and uncountable nouns have been introduced. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Before starting, sort the sheet's nouns on the board into apples, cookies, books, oranges, carrots, eggs and water, milk, rice, juice - Extend with a market game: children ask and answer about classroom objects or lunchboxes, e.g. How many pencils are there? / There isn't any juice.
- Items 3 and 6: choosing many or much because the worksheet pictures show a full plate of cookies and a full bowl of rice, which contradicts aren't/isn't - Items 2 and 8: answering many for water and juice because several containers are pictured - Item 1: choosing any in the positive sentence There are ___ apples. - Items 7 and 9 offer both some and any; children may pick any, not knowing it belongs in negatives and questions
