Teaching guide

What children will practise

Write some, any, much or many in each gap with no options under the item, using the market pictures and the type of sentence.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 2 points each, 20 points in total - The same sentences as the choose sheet, e.g. There aren't ___ cookies. / How ___ juice is there? / There are ___ carrots. - Item 3 shows an empty plate with crumbs and item 6 an empty bowl, pointing to any - The four possible words appear only in the title (some/any/much/many); there is no word bank - A separate answer key writes the full sentences in red

How to use it in class

Use after the choose sheet on the same topic. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Before starting, write the four words on the board with a short example each: much water, many eggs, some milk, any rice - After marking, discuss items with more than one possible answer, e.g. There are some/many apples., and ask children how the meaning changes

Common sticking points

- Items 1, 7 and 9: writing many or some, both correct, though the key gives only one; accept either - Items 2 and 8: writing many with water and juice - Item 4, There is ___ milk in the glass.: writing much because milk is uncountable, though much is unusual in plain positive sentences - Items 3 and 6: writing some in a negative sentence
