Before you begin

Teaching guide

What children will practise

Put word cards in order to make statements and questions with some, any, much and many, then copy them out, fixing patterns such as There are many..., There isn't any... and How much...?

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 2 points each, 20 points in total - Items 1-3 and 5-10 have two cards, e.g. any rice. / There isn't and eggs are there? / How many - Item 4 has three cards: some milk / in the glass. / There is - The sentences repeat the choose and fill-in sheets (apples, water, cookies, milk, books, rice, oranges, juice, carrots, eggs) - A separate answer key writes the full sentences in red

How to use it in class

Suits less confident learners: use it as a warm-up before the choose sheet or as end-of-lesson copying. Allow about 10 minutes. - Most items have only two cards, so have children read each sentence aloud and say whether the noun is countable, rather than just ordering - After marking, turn statements into questions, e.g. There are some oranges. into Are there any oranges?

Common sticking points

- Item 4: building There is in the glass some milk., not knowing the place phrase goes last - Dropping the apostrophe in aren't and isn't when copying - Leaving off the question mark in the How much and How many items - Getting the order right without noticing the quantifier, so follow up by asking why cookies takes any
