Before you begin
Order word cards into wh-questions that start with What, Where, When, Who or How and put is, are, do or can in the right place, adding the question mark themselves.
10 items, 2 points each (no total is printed) - Three to six cards per item, e.g. your / What / name / is and can / What / play / Tom - Six questions use is/are, e.g. Where is the library? / How are you?, three use do, e.g. Where do you live?, and one uses can - Items 9 and 10 share the same cards except When and How: When do you go to school? / How do you go to school? - A separate answer key writes each question in full, with the wh-word and helping verb in red
Use after the choose-the-question sheet, once children know the wh-words and are ready to build questions. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, write two patterns on the board, Wh- + is/are + ... and Wh- + do/can + you/Tom + verb, and ask which one each item uses - After marking, children interview a partner with questions 1, 3, 6, 7 and 10 and note the short answers
- Item 8: building What Tom can play?, keeping statement order - Items 6 and 9: writing Where you do live? or When you go to school?, misplacing or dropping do - Forgetting the question mark, since no card has one - Items 4 and 7: writing Who your teacher is?, following Thai word order
