Teaching guide

What children will practise

Count on in 2s, 5s and 10s by following jumps on a number line to the end point, including from starting numbers that are not multiples of the step.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 20 points - Count the jumps and write the end number in the circle - Three lines go up in 2s (0 to 6, 4 to 12, 88 to 96), four in 5s (e.g. 10 to 25, 70 to 80) and three in 10s (e.g. 30 to 60) - Question 8 starts at 45 and makes five jumps of 10 to reach 95 - A separate answer key is included

How to use it in class

Use after children can count in 2s, 5s and 10s aloud from zero. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Have children write the number under the tip of each arrow before filling the final circle - Follow up with a floor number line: call out a starting number and a step size for children to jump

Common sticking points

- Counting tick marks rather than arrows, e.g. getting 16 instead of 25 in question 3 - In questions 8 and 10, starting at 45 or 88 and then slipping into round numbers, e.g. 45, 50, 60 - Counting the starting number as the first jump, so the answer falls one step short
