What children will practise

Read numerals 1 to 8 as Thai number words, match additions to their answers, and link numbers to real groups of things, in line with indicator ค 1.1 ป.1/1.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, a matching game with 4 pairs each - 1 with หนึ่ง, 4 with สี่ - 5 with ห้า, 8 with แปด - 2 + 3 with 5, 3 + 5 with 8 - 3 with a tricycle's wheels, 5 with the fingers on one hand, 2 with a pair of eyes

How to use it in class

Use early in Grade 1 as children start reading number words. 5 minutes. - Play as a class and read each number word aloud together after matching it - For round 4, children hold up fingers or point to their eyes to count - If many miss rounds 1 or 2, practise word cards for หก and แปด, which are often mixed up - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In round 2, swapping หก and แปด, or ห้า and หก, because ห้า and หก begin with the same letter - In round 1, swapping สอง and สาม, which both begin with ส - In round 3, matching 3 + 5 with 7 after a counting slip
