What children will practise

Solve a mixed set of word problems: distance from speed and time, a percentage discount, sharing water into glasses, a fraction of an amount, the mean and the volume of a box, including decimal multiplication from ค 1.1 ป.5/6.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - 90 km/h for 2 and a half hours: how far (225) - 15% off 1,200 baht: how much is taken off (180) - 3 litres into 250 ml glasses: how many glasses (12) - Mean of 12, 18, 24 and 26 (20) - Volume of a box 5 by 6 by 4 (120)

How to use it in class

Use as an end-of-term challenge for classes that have finished every unit; about 8 minutes. - Play in teams with scrap paper and about a minute per question - For Q2, split 15% into 10% + 5% (120 + 60) - If many miss Q3, convert 3 litres to 3000 ml first, then ask how many glasses make 1 litre - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Q1: 90 × 2 = 180 forgetting the half hour, which is offered - Q3: not converting litres to millilitres, or using 1 litre = 100 ml - Q2: 150 chosen because it looks like a round answer - Q5: dividing by 3 although there are 4 values
