Before you play

4 rounds, a put-in-order game with 4 items each - Smallest to largest: 1, 4, 7, 9 - Largest to smallest: 9, 6, 3, 0 - Things smallest to biggest: ant, cat, person, elephant - Numbers over ten, smallest to largest: 11, 13, 15, 18
Use after teaching number comparison. 5 minutes. - Before playing, have four children hold number cards at the front while classmates tell them where to swap - Play in teams; for round 2, stress reading the instruction first: largest to smallest, not smallest to largest - If many miss round 4, point out every number has 1 ten, so the ones digit decides - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.
- In round 2, ordering smallest-first out of habit, having just done that in round 1 - In round 2, misplacing 0, not yet sure it is less than all the others - In round 4, swapping 13 and 15 when reading too quickly
