What children will practise

Order numbers that rise in twos and fall in ones, order numbers above ten, and order the steps of a meal, close to indicator ค 1.2 ป.1/1 on number patterns.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, a put-in-order game with 4 items each - Rising in twos: 2 > 4 > 6 > 8 - Falling in ones: 8 > 7 > 6 > 5 - A meal: wash hands > serve the rice > eat > wash the dishes - Smallest to largest: 12 > 13 > 14 > 15

How to use it in class

Use in a lesson on number patterns. 5 minutes. - Play as a class; for rounds 1 and 2, children hop along a floor number line following the pattern - For round 2, stress that decreasing means counting backwards - If many miss round 4, read twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen aloud and point to the ones digit - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In round 2, ordering 5, 6, 7, 8 upwards out of habit; point to the word decreasing - In round 4, swapping 13 and 14 while two-digit numbers are still shaky - In round 3, swapping serving and washing hands, since at some homes an adult serves first
