6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options each, 3 additions and 3 subtractions - 4 apples and 3 more: 7 - 9 sweets, 4 eaten: 5 - 10 pencils, 3 given away: 7 (13 is a distractor) - 5 baht and 3 baht together: 8 (2 is a distractor) - 8 chairs, 6 taken, how many free: 2 (14 is a distractor)
Use once children add and subtract within 10, to practise choosing the operation. 6 minutes. - Play as a class; read each problem aloud and have children sign add or subtract before seeing the options - Afterwards, each child makes up one problem of their own - If many choose distractors such as 13 or 14, act the story out, e.g. actually hand pencils to a friend - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.
- In questions 4 and 6, choosing 13 and 14 by adding the numbers seen without reading the story; these distractors target exactly that - In question 5, choosing 2, thinking older and younger sibling means finding a difference - In question 6, unsure whether taken means more or fewer, since nothing actually disappears
