A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Compare the tens first, then the ones.
Count back in fives from twenty-five.
Monday through to Thursday in order.
Before you play
Order numbers going up in tens and down in fives, order the days of the week, and put the steps of measuring with a ruler in the right order (indicator ค 2.1 ป.2/2).
4 ordering questions - 18, 28, 38, 48 smallest to largest - 25, 20, 15, 10 counting back in fives - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - Lay the ruler straight, start at the 0, read the number at the far end, write it down with its unit
Use in a lesson where pupils measure real objects: play for 5 minutes first, then have them follow the Q4 steps with their own pencil. - Team mode works well; for the steps question, ask teams why you must start at 0 - For counting back in fives, count down aloud together - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book
- In the measuring steps, putting "start at the 0" before "lay the ruler straight"; both sound reasonable. Hear pupils' reasons, then explain you line the ruler up first and then set 0 at the end. The game accepts only one order; if a pupil swaps the first two steps and can explain why, count the understanding as sound - Ordering the counting-back question smallest first, out of habit from Q1 - When measuring for real, pupils often start at the edge of the ruler instead of the 0. Show that some rulers have a gap before 0
