A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Three times four is twelve, so twelve divided by three is four.
Dividing asks: four times what makes twenty? The answer is five.
Dividing asks: six times what makes eighteen? The answer is three.
Before you play
Find quotients by thinking back from the times tables (4 times what makes 20?), solve an equal-sharing problem, and know that 0 divided by any number is 0 (indicator ค 1.1 ป.3/7).
6 multiple-choice questions - 12 ÷ 3 = 4 and 20 ÷ 4 = 5 - 18 ÷ 6 = 3 and 35 ÷ 5 = 7 - 21 oranges shared equally between 7 people: 3 each - 0 ÷ 9 = ? answer 0, distractors 1 and 9
Use in the first division lessons, 5-6 minutes, solo mode. Give counters to pupils who still need to share physically. - For each question, have pupils say the matching multiplication: 18 ÷ 6 means 6 × ? = 18 - For 0 ÷ 9, tell a story: zero sweets shared among 9 children; how many each? - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book
- Choosing 9 or 1 for 0 ÷ 9, mixing it up with 9 ÷ 9 or thinking division must give something. Use the sharing story - Choosing 7 for 21 oranges among 7 people, giving the number of people. Ask whether the question is about people or oranges - Choosing 2 or 4 for 18 ÷ 6 when the 6 times table is shaky. Use 3 × 6, which is the same as 6 × 3
