What children will practise

Simplify fractions to lowest terms, match divisions to quotients, state the rule of a number pattern, and list all factors of numbers up to 12.

What's in the worksheet

4 matching questions - 2/4 = 1/2, 3/9 = 1/3, 4/16 = 1/4, 6/8 = 3/4 - 72 ÷ 9 = 8, 45 ÷ 5 = 9, 42 ÷ 7 = 6 - 2, 4, 6, 8 adds 2 each time; 2, 4, 8, 16 multiplies by 2 - 12 has factors 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 and 7 has factors 1, 7

How to use it in class

Use after teaching lowest terms, 6-7 minutes, team mode. - 2, 4, 6, 8 and 2, 4, 8, 16 start the same; have teams check the third and fourth numbers - For factors, start with 7, which has the fewest, and mention that 7 is prime - After the fractions question, ask whether 3/4 can be simplified further - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book

Common sticking points

- Matching 6/8 with 1/2 or 1/4 because of the 8. Divide top and bottom by 2 - Matching 2, 4, 8, 16 with "add 2" by looking only at 2 to 4 - With incomplete factor lists, pairing 1, 2, 5, 10 with 12. Test dividing by 5
