A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
A right angle is ninety degrees - the corner of a sheet of paper.
A straight angle is a straight line - one hundred and eighty degrees.
The three angles of a triangle always total one hundred and eighty degrees.
Before you play
Revise the sizes of basic angles (a right angle is 90 degrees, a straight angle 180) and use the facts that a triangle's angles total 180 and a quadrilateral's 360 to find a missing angle.
6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - How many degrees in a right angle (90) and in a straight angle (180) - A triangle has angles of 60 and 70 degrees; find the third (50) - What the angles of a quadrilateral add up to (360) - Each angle of an equilateral triangle (60)
Use at the start of a lesson as a warm-up before triangles and quadrilaterals; about 5-7 minutes. - Play in team mode on the projector and give each team scrap paper to write 180 minus the known angles - If many miss Q5, draw a diagonal across a quadrilateral on the board to make two triangles and ask what two lots of 180 make - For Q4, have children say their working aloud, not just the number - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.
- Q4: children may pick 60 because it appears in the question, or 40 after a subtraction slip; write 180 - 60 - 70 step by step - Q5: children who only remember 180 for triangles often give 180 for a quadrilateral too; split it into two triangles - Q1 and Q2: right and straight angles get swapped; compare a paper corner (90) with a ruler laid flat (180)
