What children will practise

Convert the same amount between fractions, decimals and percentages (1/2 = 0.5 = 50%) and find percentages of 80, building on ค 1.1 ป.5/1 on writing fractions with denominators that are factors of 10 or 100 as decimals.

What's in the worksheet

4 matching rounds of 4 pairs each - Fraction to decimal: 1/2 with 0.5, 3/4 with 0.75, 1/5 with 0.2 - Fraction to percentage: 1/10 with 10%, 1/1 with 100% - Question to answer: 25% of 80 with 20, 10% of 80 with 8 - Decimal to percentage: 0.35 with 35%, 0.6 with 60%

How to use it in class

Use after introducing percentages, to tie the three forms together; about 5 minutes. - Play in teams and let children draw a 10-part fraction strip to help - If many mismatch 0.6 in round 4, write 0.6 = 0.60 and ask how many hundredths that is - Afterwards, ask for real percentages from sale signs - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 4: children read 0.6 as 6% from the digit after the point; with no 6% card they end up pairing it with 85%; pad to 0.60 - Round 1: 1/5 paired with 0.5 because of the 5; stress that 1/5 = 2/10 = 0.2 - Round 2: 1/1 with 100% may puzzle children who are not used to a fraction equal to 1
