How to use it in class

Use after teaching how to make denominators equal; about 6 minutes. - Play solo, then put Q3 and Q6 on the screen and explain them with a circle diagram - If many miss Q3, fold paper in half and in half again to show 1/2 = 2/4 - Q2 has no correct option: the answer is 1/2. Do not score it from the game - Q5 requires simplifying. Stress that 2/4 and 1/2 are equal - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Q3: adding tops and bottoms gives 2/6, which is offered - Q1: 3/10 comes from adding the denominators too - Q4: 3/9 from adding denominators, or not realising 3/3 is 1 - Q2: the option 2/8 comes from subtracting the tops but adding the bottoms
