Sample questions

A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.

  1. 1/4 + 1/2 = ?

    • 3/4
    • 1/6
    • 2/6
    Read the explanation

One half is two quarters, plus one quarter makes three quarters.

  2. What is 30% of 200?

    • 50
    • 60
    • 70
    Read the explanation

Ten per cent of two hundred is twenty, times three is sixty.

  3. What is the mean of 4, 8 and 12?

    • 10
    • 6
    • 8
    Read the explanation

They total twenty-four, divided by three is eight.

What children will practise

Mixed Grade 5 review: adding unlike fractions, finding a percentage of a number, the mean, triangle area, adding decimals and the volume of a cuboid as in ค 2.1 ป.5/3.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - 1/4 + 1/2 (3/4) - 30% of 200 (60) - Mean of 4, 8 and 12 (8) - Area of a triangle with base 12 and height 5 (30) - Volume of a box 2 by 3 by 4 (24)

How to use it in class

Use as a cumulative review before the end-of-term test; about 6-8 minutes. - Play in teams and rotate who taps the answer each question so everyone thinks - Afterwards, see which question was missed most and revisit that unit next lesson - If many miss Q4, stress that a triangle's area is always halved - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Q4: forgetting to halve gives 60, which is offered - Q1: adding denominators gives 2/6 - Q6: adding instead of multiplying, or multiplying only two edges, gives 9 or 12 - Q2: children unsure of percentages guess 50 or 70
