What children will practise

Match eight pictures of children in action to run, jump, walk, swim, read, write, sing and dance, then choose the first letter of run, jump, swim and read.

What's in the worksheet

12 items, 20 points - Part A: write the letter A-H in the box for 8 pictures (16 points), e.g. a boy in goggles swimming, a girl singing into a microphone, a boy walking in a park - Part B: choose the first letter in 4 items (4 points) from r/s/t, b/j/k, s/w/p and r/d/b - Key: Part A reads H E D A F B G C; Part B reads r j s r

How to use it in class

Use at the start of an action-verbs unit, after a round of Simon says with all eight verbs. Allow about 10 minutes. - The printed word bank is in Thai, so write the English words A-H on the board and have children copy them beside the Thai first - In Part B, have children act out each picture and say the word aloud before circling

Common sticking points

- Swapping run (item 4) and walk (item 8), as both show a boy mid-stride - Swapping dance (item 1) and sing (item 7), as both pictures have music notes - In Part B, choosing d or b for read, mixing up look-alike letters - In Part B, choosing w for swim because the w sound is heard more clearly than the s
