Teaching guide

What children will practise

Look at pictures of children in action and write eight verbs without a word bank, then draw and name an activity the child enjoys.

What's in the worksheet

12 points - Part A: write the verb under each of 8 pictures (8 points): run, jump, walk, swim, read, write, sing and dance - Part B: draw and write (4 points), finishing the Thai prompt ฉันชอบ (I like) and drawing in the box - There is no word bank, so every word is spelt from memory - A separate answer key is included, with dance. as the sample for Part B

How to use it in class

Use at the end of an action-verbs unit, after children have played a mime or Simon Says game with the words. Allow about 15-20 minutes including drawing. - Before writing, call out each verb and have children act it out, e.g. jump or swim - Use Part B for speaking: children hold up their drawing and tell a partner I like swimming. or I can dance.

Common sticking points

- Dropping the silent w or the final e in write (rite, writ) - Spelling dance by sound as dans or danse - Picture 8 shows a girl stepping with music notes, and some children may write jump or walk instead of dance - Writing the -ing form (running, swimming) where the key uses the base verb
