Teaching guide

What children will practise

Look at children sensing the world and write which sense organ each one is using, covering all five senses.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 10 points - Write the sense organ under each picture; there is no word bank - Eyes: a rainbow, reading / Ears: headphones, a ringing bell / Nose: a flower, steaming soup / Tongue: ice cream, a lemon - The key gives 'hand' for hugging a teddy bear and for feeling the warm sun - Each sense appears twice, and the answer key writes every answer in red

How to use it in class

Use once all five senses have been taught. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, play a mystery-box game where children smell, taste or touch things blindfolded and name the organ they used - Write eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin in Thai on the board for children who are not yet confident spellers - For Q8, accept skin when a child explains that it feels the sun's warmth, and accept eyes when the explanation is that they are looking at the sun

Common sticking points

- Item 8 (warm sunshine): children often write eyes because they see the sun, but the key wants the organ that feels warmth - Writing mouth instead of tongue for the ice cream and lemon - Item 6 (hot soup): writing tongue because it is food, although the picture shows smelling the steam
