What children will practise

Draw lines to match ten pictures of a child's day, from waking to bedtime, with two- and three-word verb phrases in a bank A-J, such as wake up, have lunch and go to bed.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - Word bank A-J: take a shower, go to bed, brush teeth, play games, have lunch, wake up, do homework, go to school, read a book, have breakfast - The pictures roughly follow the day, from waking up (item 1) to sleeping (item 8), then reading and playing games - Two pictures show eating: item 3 is breakfast with toast and milk, item 6 is lunch with rice and side dishes - The key marks a letter in the corner of each picture: F C J H G E A B I D

How to use it in class

Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, mime the phrases as you read them, e.g. brush teeth, take a shower, and let children guess - After marking, have children order the ten phrases to fit their own day and tell a partner, I wake up at 6 o'clock. Then I...

Common sticking points

- Swapping have breakfast (item 3) and have lunch (item 6), as both show a child eating at a table; the food is the clue - Swapping do homework (item 5) and read a book (item 9), since both pictures include a book - Choosing wake up for item 8, the sleeping child, because the bed looks like the one in item 1
